You may wish to print this file for reference during the update and installation process.
The ╥Thunder 7¬ 1.0.6 Updater╙ application included on this disk is used to replace certain resources in your Thunder 7¬ control panel. Since the changes involved are extensive, YOU SHOULD NOT RUN THE UPDATER ON YOUR CURRENTLY INSTALLED THUNDER 7. Instead, make a DUPLICATE of your original Thunder 7 Master Disk and perform the following update steps using that duplicate disk. When you are finished updating this duplicate master disk, you will use it to install Thunder 7 1.0.6 on your Macintosh.
NOTE: SOME VIRUS DETECTION PROGRAMS SEE THE ACTIONS OF THIS UPDATER AS SUSPICIOUS. PLEASE TURN OFF ANY VIRUS DETECTION SOFTWARE WHILE YOU ARE PERFORMING THE FOLLOWING STEPS. OUR UPDATER PROGRAM IS VIRUS-FREE AND IS PERFORMING ONLY NECESSARY OPERATIONS.
NOTE: If you downloaded this Update from an online service or from Baseline╒s BBS (instead of receiving an Update disk in the mail), skip steps 1 through 3. Otherwise, the process is the same.
TO UPDATE YOUR DUPLICATE MASTER DISK:
1) Insert the ╥Thunder 7 1.0.6 Update Kit╙ disk into your disk drive.
2) Copy the entire contents of the Update Disk to a new folder on your hard disk.
The easiest way to do this is to drag the icon for the Update Disk onto the icon for your hard disk. Your Macintosh will automatically create a folder named ╥Thunder 7 1.0.6 Update Kit╙ on your hard disk and copy everything to it.
3) Drag the Update Disk icon to the Trash to eject the disk.
4) Open the new folder on your hard disk which contains the Thunder 7 Updater software.
5) Double-click the icon named ╥Thunder 7¬ 1.0.6 Updater╙ to run the updater program. An information dialog will appear briefly, then a dialog box with buttons named ╥Info,╙ ╥Update,╙ and ╥Cancel.╙ (If you click the Info button, you will be shown a copy of these instructions. If you do so, click the Done button when you are finished reading.)
6) Click the Update button. A standard Macintosh Open dialog will appear.
7) Insert the unlocked DUPLICATE of your original Thunder 7 Master disk. The standard Open dialog box will change to show the contents of your duplicate disk.
8) Double-click on the file named ╥Thunder 7¬╙.
9) The Updater program will update the Thunder 7 control panel on the duplicate disk to version 1.0.6. This will take some time, but when the Updater is finished, it will display a dialog saying the update is complete.
10) Click OK to continue. The Updater program will quit.
11) Copy ╥Thunder Folder,╙ ╥Thunder 7¬ Utility,╙ ╥Revision History,╙ and ╥Thunder 7 Manual Addendum╙ from the Update folder on your hard disk to the duplicate master disk. You will be asked if you wish to replace files with the same names.
12) Click OK to replace the older Thunder 7 files with the newer ones.
YOUR DUPLICATE THUNDER 7 MASTER DISK HAS NOW BEEN UPDATED TO VERSION 1.0.6. YOU WILL NOW USE THIS DISK TO UPDATE YOUR WORKING COPY OF THUNDER 7 ON YOUR HARD DISK.
TO UPDATE THUNDER 7 ON YOUR HARD DISK
13) Create a new folder on your desktop and name it ╥Old Thunder.╙
14) Drag the old ╥Thunder 7¬╙ out of your System Folder and put it in the Old Thunder folder. (System 7 users: ╥Thunder 7¬╙ is probably in the Control Panels folder inside the System Folder.)
15) Drag the ╥Thunder Folder╙ out of your System Folder and put it in the Old Thunder folder.
16) Find the old ╥Thunder 7¬ Utility╙ program on your hard disk and drag it into the Old Thunder folder. (If you never copied the Thunder 7 Utility to your hard disk, skip this step.)
17) Copy the ╥Thunder 7¬╙ file from the updated Master Disk into your System Folder. (System 7 users: if you drag ╥Thunder 7¬╙ onto the _icon_ for the System Folder, Thunder 7 will be copied to the Control Panels folder. It is fine to do so.)
18) Copy the ╥Thunder Folder╙ from the updated Master Disk into your System Folder.
NOTE (to WordPerfect users): Due to changes in the clipboard format in the different versions of WordPerfect, it is very important that you have the correct compatibility module installed in the Thunder Folder. To prevent severe problems with checking selections, open the Thunder Folder inside your System Folder and trash the compatibility modules for the versions of WordPerfect that you DO NOT have. We strongly recommend upgrading to the latest version of WordPerfect.
NOTE (to WriteNow users): If you use WriteNow 2.2, see the About╔ file in the WN Patch Folder.
19) Copy the ╥Thunder 7¬ Utility╙ from the updated Master Disk to wherever you found the old one. (If you don╒t intend to use the Thunder 7 Utility, you can skip this step.)
20) Choose ╥Restart╙ from the Special menu to restart your Macintosh.
YOU HAVE NOW INSTALLED THUNDER 1.0.6 ON YOUR MACINTOSH.
Work with the new version of Thunder for a while. You may have to reconfigure some of your spelling options. After you have used the new Thunder 7 and feel that everything is running smoothly, you can throw away the Old Thunder folder.
